The San Diego Housing Fund Team
The San Diego Housing Fund Team has spent years delivering affordable and workforce housing across San Diego County — work carried out through San Diego Foundation (SDF), the San Diego Affordable Housing Foundation and other partnerships.
Housing is a San Diego Foundation strategic priority. SDF supports this work through several supporting organizations and initiatives, each suited to a different type of project and funding source. San Diego Housing Fund draws on that same team, the same relationships and the same track record to bring institutional capital into the space.
Below is a sample of the affordable and workforce housing our team has helped deliver.
Little Italy
An 8-story building on surplus county land, now providing 63 affordable homes for San Diego seniors.
Normal Heights
345 new studio and one-bedroom homes for San Diego’s workforce, currently in predevelopment.
North Park & Normal Heights
257 new homes across four properties, including Louisiana Street, where we broke ground in October 2026.
One Team
Not every housing project is funded the same way.
San Diego Foundation’s investments in housing run through two paths led by one experienced team to achieve the same goal: closing San Diego’s housing gap across the spectrum of affordability, especially for our essential workforce — the “Missing Middle.”
- San Diego Affordable Housing Foundation pursues tax-exempt funding — grants, philanthropic capital and public financing tools like tax-exempt bonds built for mission-driven affordable housing serving lower-income households. This is how projects like Kettner Crossing and the State Streets Portfolio came to life.
- San Diego Housing Fund deploys private, institutional capital — investment from developers, investors and property owners — to reach workforce and middle-income housing that falls outside traditional affordable housing financing.
